Everything to know about Fabric and Textiles

Africa is drowning in fast fashion textile waste

The butterfly one measures 33 x 43 in (84 x 109 cm) and much of it is composed of vintage tablecloths that my mom cut apart and arranged into this lovely textile scene below. The 2nd pic shows the stitching on the back of it

Autumn colors are in the house... It's been a minute since I began this sampler quilt back in 2016, but it's finally done, done, done, and I'll take the check-mark, thank you!

A really lovely 46 x 46 in (117 x 117 cm) made by my mom, titled 'Caribbean Beach' really lovely colors and designs and stitchwork, this one's perfect for a sofa or armchair or for someone with small children. Contact me if you'd like my mom to send this one to you, it's affordable & easy to order

The image features a collection of vintage ties laid out on what appears to be a white surface.
The ties display various patterns and designs, suggesting a sense of fashion history or a thematic choice for the image.
The ties are neatly arranged in rows with some overlapping.

Today, we explored Upton House in Warwickshire. As well as providing a taste of 1930s upper-class living, it houses a large painting and porcelain collection, and a fascinating textile exhibition by Lis Mann about her family's escape from the Nazi genocide in Austria.

I know this is instead of (for the cross stitch groups), but I found this on X (that's such an awful name, isn't it) and thought it was really cute so I wanted to share. I know there are some out there who organize similar animations with cross stitchers, too, but I've never gotten to participate.

Enjoy!

Why is there no channel in the discrod ahhh.

I had an idea for an ITA bag but for simple add-ons. Think MOLLE or PALS but with connectors to hold the SAOs. And then there's a power supply in the bag and a transparent foil to protect them.

ITA bags are used for pins and plushies - comes from "cringe" / "painful" fandom and people putting too many stickers on cars.

MOLLE / PALS is the attachment system on military bags, which I also find cringe sometimes.

(omg ping me too! I just got a hand-me-down sewing machine and a need to make yukata)

Also Ravelry Lots of youtube tutorials, but I really prefer text with (enough) photos.

Watching YouTube videos about how to turn the ram's fleece into workable . There's another cold spell due this week and I think straight after that is the proper time to relieve him of his massive burden.

Gonna be a nightmare getting all the plant debris and prickles out, I reckon. He pretty much just wanders where he wants and comes back covered in prickly bits.

Kiddos dad is excited to extract the lanolin. I do not yet have my own spinning wheel, though I would potentially have access to one (I don't wanna ask, I'd generally just prefer to have my own), though learnt this morning that one may not necessarily be required (I still really like the *idea* of sitting at a wheel, though).

Then it'll be learning some dying techniques, a few natural green dyes I want to try, and probably some shop dyes too.

"Scientists Make Stunning Breakthrough, Turning Banana Peels into Textiles and Renewable Fuels"

"80 million metric tons of agricultural waste are generated in Pakistan every year from growing bananas.

Academics from Northumbria University have now teamed up with partners in the UK and Pakistan to create a new solution that will make use of this waste product and provide benefits for local people at the same time."

Today in Labor History September 1, 1934: A strike began in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, as part of a national movement to obtain a minimum wage for textile workers. The strike lasted until September 23, and involved more than 420,000 workers, with three of them being killed in the actions.

I cant possibly show all the impressive pieces that I saw at the exhibit, there are just too many (its a popular art form and the exhibit is extensive!) its running until September 30 at the National Gallery in Ottawa.

Ok, one more.
