Back in 2019, when I started working on seriously for :wikidata:, I took a good hard look at and and ran away. Five years on, I have more domain knowledge, better access to references, and more Wikidata tricks up my sleeve. So when the question of rug vs. carpet arose on Wikidata Telegram, I decided to jump back in and see what could be done. 1/2

Why I've been quiet about this for the moment: the painting hasn't gone well.
1. I live in a country where the winters are long and it never stops raining. Some days it's been too cold to paint and I can't paint indoors because of the fumes.
2. I thought spraying wood would be like spraying metal. It's not, wood bleed is a thing.
3. I was not happy with the direction things were going, so I decided to start over with the paint.
4. I should have done more research and prep.
5. I was rushing.
So I took some time, watched some furniture tutorials and researched what to use. Bought some Zinsser cover stain primer and a tin of matt black Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch and I've started again traditionally.
Appeal: does anyone have any juicy photos of museum/collection textiles that I may use in a training session (With credit, obviously.)
I'm after:
packed/stored textiles (stored well or poorly, your choice!)
examples of different types of historic and modern textiles
examples of damage to textiles (stains, tears, pest nibbles, anything!)
identified fibres under a microscope
Grateful for boosts! :boostok:

Giveaway post! Calling and people!
I'm weeding some books & have decided to get rid of a lot of my textile library.
I can send these to anyone in the US for the cost of shipping. It will be media mail to save expenses unless you say otherwise. Right now, about 5 lbs. of books is around $7 to send. All from a smoke free home with cats, but they haven't been around these books much.
I'll post books on this thread, just reply to tell me you want specific ones and I'll respond via DM. Of course, I'd love it if they all go to one place but I'm open to splitting them up. I can post more pics of specific books, if interested.

So uh, I couldn't walk past this gorgeous ball of yarn at a local store the other day. Now I'm looking for inspiration on what to do with it. My level of experience has never grown beyond spool knitter sausages, but it's never too late to start, right :blobfoxangrylaugh:

My favourite part of - starting scrumbles with no idea where they are going. All wool is 4-ply in Superwash Merino/nylon from UK independents. The fab red is Furnace by The jacket top is in heavier weight - the bottom has lacier shapes in lighter . These are pinned to foam/wood blocking boards and wetted. This makes them lie flat for a better finish. Then adding surface work begins!

I am considering using this entire mess of everything to just start over on KoFi or another platform that people moved to instead of Patreon which is such a fucking *problem* to everyone anyway. I am soliciting recommendations. I may have asked already and then forgotten. idk

Finally, my best tip. If you're lucky enough to be bought an adjustable tailor's dummy for Christmas, make sure you take your measurements like I did, early on Boxing Day. You may be horrified at the time but now I feel smug knocking off a few centimetres without suffering too much dieting hell.
It is just as possible to make nice projects on a rigid heddle looms as it is in a floor loom. Pictured is a warp of towels on a 15" Schacht Cricket for Fiber Arts Club cdtschool. It is nearly identical to the warp on the Harrisville Designs floor looms for the older students. The only difference is the width the sett and yarn are the same! What is the carbon impact of the fashion industry
The figure of 10% of global carbon emissions has been cited in multiple secondary sources, e.g.
and the UN cites between 2 & 8%
But when I tried to track the source down, it looks more like it's between 1 and 3% see
I suspect an error in some secondary source has been perpetuated.
1-3% seems more reasonable really.
