Saban que antes de la llegada del algodn y las fibras sintticas, casi la totalidad de las flotas navales del mundo dependan de la tela de camo para poder navegar

Durante siglos, el tejido obtenido del tallo de la planta Cannabis sativa fue el material estndar para la confeccin de las velas, las cuerdas y los aparejos de las embarcaciones coloniales y de exploracin. La razn de su uso masivo radicaba en su capacidad natural para resistir la humedad, la exposicin constante a la intemperie y la corrosin generada por el agua salada del ocano, condiciones que destruan rpidamente a otros tejidos de origen vegetal debido a la proliferacin de microorganismos y hongos.

El vnculo de esta planta con la navegacin qued registrado directamente en el lenguaje moderno, ya que la palabra lona en varios idiomas europeos proviene etimolgicamente del trmino griego antiguo utilizado para designar al camo. Cristoforo Colombo utiliz toneladas de este textil en el velamen y los cabos de sus carabelas durante sus travesas atlnticas de 1492, y en el siglo XVI, el rey Enrique VIII de Inglaterra promulg una ley que multaba a los propietarios de tierras que no destinaran una parte de sus campos al cultivo de este recurso para abastecer a la armada real.

Adems de su durabilidad mecnica, los arquelogos han documentado que el camo es una de las fibras textiles ms antiguas creadas por el ser humano, con vestigios de telas funerarias y cuerdas en Asia Central que datan de aproximadamente el ao 8000 antes de nuestra era. Los registros de la dinasta Zhou Occidental reflejan que gran parte de la vestimenta cotidiana de la poblacin general se confeccionaba con este material por su bajo costo de produccin en comparacin con la seda, una tendencia de uso masivo que disminuy tras la industrializacin de los procesos de desmotado del algodn y las posteriores restricciones legales aplicadas a los cultivos agrcolas del gnero del cannabis a mediados del siglo XX.

I love the earnestness of this label. It's big, 8cm square. On the inside of my wife's 10 / 15 year old tweed jacket. I remember my dad had the same label inside a flat cap in the 80s. It took up most of the inside!

I used to make these pride flag heart mini cushions, I was kinda thinking of trying to sell them on Etsy at some point, but is there any way you think I could improve them first
