Work of Pablo Rueda Lara, currenty exhibitioned in Deventer (Brink 16. Kunstaanz.nl). He had a hard time growing up but found his place in The Netherlands later in life. There he became a ceramist. He died in 1993.
I loved his work with textiles. The fabric and enamel are all clay. Timeless.

Rod Zeitler has preserved his status as an Iowa State Fair legend. For the last several years he has had an entry in each of the roughly 180 canning classes, and he typically wins a ribbon per class. This display features more than seven hundred jars of Zeitlers home-canned pickles, relishes, sauces, vegetables, fruits, jellies, jams, preserves, and butters. Rod Zeitler, 2025.

Arbol de la Vida John Deere Tractor Model #790

Artist and activist Margarita Cabrera uses one of the most iconic symbols of American agricul- ture, the John Deere tractor, to draw attention to the immigrant workers American agriculture depends on. The clay fabrication of this tractor references rbol de la vida (tree of life) sculptures, a Mexican ceramic tradition that blends pre-Columbian and Catholic cosmologies and conveys the story of creation. Cabrera applied the flowers, birds, and butterflies that traditionally decorate these sculp- tures, but replaced the usual tree form with a life-size clay replica of a John Deere tractor. By merging the American tractor with an Indigenous Mexican craft practice, Cabrera highlights issues of exclusion within the agricultural system, especially given the reliance of American food production on immigrant labor. Really enjoyed this Parkrose Permaculture video pushing back at Hank Green's piece on knitting.

She mentions how knitting was used to send coded messages during WW1. This article has a neat summary on knitting and espionage.

She parachuted into occupied Normandy in 1944 and rode stashed bicycles to troops, chatting with German soldiers under the pretense of being helpfulthen, she would return to her knitting kit, in which she hid a silk yarn ready to be filled with secret knotted messages, which she would translate using Morse Code equipment."

I've been watching a lot of (highly recommended) of late as I'm feeding the child or expressing milk, and some of that time was spent watching a variety of rock art and documentaries.

I found the cave paintings particularly moving, so I traced baby Lilith's hands onto cardboard, got some spray paints, and decorated an otherwise dull nursing top.

I love how it turned out.

One of the pleasures of the two leadership roles I had before this one was my interactions with the textiles people in my Faculty (we had everything from advanced non-wovens to traditional and computer controlled looms e.g., )

Chinese cotton textile production and consumption changed during the early 20th century with growing demand for finer yarns & direct purchasing of long staple cotton by Japanese companies, according to Masataka Setobayashi in the Asia-Pacific Economic History Review.

Used a different technique on this shirt. Same dyes as the previous purple shirt, but this one really gave the watercolor effects and some amazing splits!
