Everything to know about Fabric and Textiles

Had a fabric swatch arrive from Spoonflower. Will be selling these soon. It has all 42 pieces from the Aesthetic set I made earlier this year.

Happy with the result.

Reminder for my -- the Archaeological Textiles Review (formerly Archaeological Textiles Newsletter) has been a fount of recent scholarship on old textiles for decades. They also report on experimental archaeology efforts and museum textiles.

If you can spare them a few bucks to help them maintain their website, that would be awesome.

On 14 November at 6:30pm UK time, I am delivering an online lecture for History Scotland on the history and artistry of the shawl, an iconic Scottish textile with a story. Registration includes 7-day access to the event recording!

Design Milk : LDF23: A Celebration of the Creative Industries in Shoreditch Design Triangle

Some fabrics from a few months ago.

Today in Labor History October 10, 1912: The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) struck in Little Falls, New York. The strike lasted into January and involved primarily immigrant workers. It started at the Phoenix Knitting Mill, but spread to the Gilbert Knitting Mill, also in the Mohawk Valley. In November, the Little Falls Council voted to authorize a contingent of special police, which escalated tensions. Later that month, the AFL created United Textile Workers local #206 to compete with the Wobblies for members and press attention. But when the AFL announced it had reached a settlement between with mill owners, later that month, the workers refused it, siding with the Wobblies and demanding greater concessions.

In celebration of here's how recursion can create interesting patterns in that can then be stitched onto fabric.

"Indigenous Peoples Day" teableau for 10/09/23

We are having a yard sale and I just made the first money I have ever, ever made for my textile work ($5 for handspun yarn).

What's also nice is even if I don't sell anything else, this process helped me decide what I'm okay getting rid of. So whatever doesn't sell goes straight in the donation bin.
