Everything to know about Fabric and Textiles

Here are the fronts and backs of two that are available made by my mom, really nice pieces of very affordable, a really sweet holiday gift idea to give to someone you love msg me if interested theyre very easy to order!

I'm thinking initially about just uploading designs to sites like Spoonflower and Redbubble (because it looks easiest and I have very few spoons) but I'm also curious about designers who have their own websites. Do you have to have stock on hand and process orders yourself, or are there print-on-demand companies that handle that side while letting you have your own website

Curious about making my own fabric and other textile and home decor designs to sell (eg via Spoonflower) and wondering if anyone has any experience they'd like to share.

Midway through new weaving. Titled "Crete".

'Today we unveil Crafted in Mexico, a new hub on Google Arts & Culture celebrating our nation's textile artisans, their enduring skills passed down through generations, and the significance of their work in the past, present and future.... The project presents over 50 stories that pay tribute to these artisans, their intricate techniques, and the enduring artistry that enriches Mexico's cultural heritage.'

These are no ordinary jeans. Aldersey-Williams, 51, a Merseyside-based textiles teacher, grew them herself. The process which nearly broke her took three years and 600 hours of labour, from sowing and growing the flax and woad (for linen and natural indigo dye) to dew retting (or rotting) the flax to reveal the linen fibres to breaking, scutching and hackling it (that is, prepping it for spinning) to spinning almost five kilometres of thread to weaving, cutting and sewing it all together.

Interesting story from the AFR today on flax / woad jeans, an idea conceived and executed by Justine Aldersey-Williams a textile lecturer and Mersyside practitioner.

We had our first ice storm and Im getting into the winter spirit by knitting a Flax sweater by Tin Can Knits (free pattern). Im using their (free) app to do it. Recommend! It sorts out the stitch counts based on size and yarn weight. Only has a few patterns available currently but they seem to be updating regularly. Great idea for an app, imo.

Happy with the result.

Reminder for my -- the Archaeological Textiles Review (formerly Archaeological Textiles Newsletter) has been a fount of recent scholarship on old textiles for decades. They also report on experimental archaeology efforts and museum textiles.

If you can spare them a few bucks to help them maintain their website, that would be awesome.

Apart from any Rowling kerfuffle, may I just say I adore what the have done with I want them!!!

Been up since 2am to watch and I really miss achievable premiere times that don't royally f*ck me up lol

In related news, I think I need to just buy a ton of gorgeous velvet (or anything indulgently soft too) and start making all the robes and kaftans I want. It's all drapey stuff with no intense structure. I feel like I could do it-

Maybe velvet is really difficult to sew, though

masto pls weigh in I'd love some thoughts or advice
