A duvet marketed as made with organic covers 70 to 95 percent organic fiber content. A plain organic claim requires 95 percent or higher. Both are label grades a finished duvet can carry under GOTS certification, but the fiber content differs by 25 percentage points, and only the license number tells you which one you paid for.

This is all Marian's photos of her own work. She was an amazing artist
Look at how deep these cells are already, even though its still under tension. This is the single plain diagonal tie-up. Kinda interesting the difference in the single vs the double. (See previous weaving post). That extra tie-down really makes a difference.
It looks like Ill have enough warp to do a whole towel in this tie-up. Kinda excited about that. It looks like I screwed up my weaving mathin my favor this time!

Today in Labor History October 10, 1912: The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) struck in Little Falls, New York. The strike lasted into January and involved primarily immigrant workers. It started at the Phoenix Knitting Mill, but spread to the Gilbert Knitting Mill, also in the Mohawk Valley. In November, the Little Falls Council voted to authorize a contingent of special police, which escalated tensions. Later that month, the AFL created United Textile Workers local #206 to compete with the Wobblies for members and press attention. But when the AFL announced it had reached a settlement between with mill owners, later that month, the workers refused it, siding with the Wobblies and demanding greater concessions.
I have spent many evenings reading in bare, anonymous rooms at hotels and hostels. My main image of life at my new part-time in Hallstahammar is evenings spent reading in a cozy, personalised den surrounded by , , and .

TextilesA king pillowcase and a body pillowcase share one number: both are 20 inches wide. Length is where they split. A king pillow runs 36 inches and the common body pillow runs 54, so a king case stops 18 inches short. Some body pillows run 72, another 18 inches past that. A label that just says "body size" gives no length at all, so measure the pillow.

ASTM D4970, the lab pilling test, rubs a fabric against itself and grades it from 5 down to 1. The factors that move the grade are fiber type, fiber dimensions, yarn and fabric construction, and finish. Thread count is not among them. If anything, a higher count means finer yarn, which lets go of its fiber ends sooner.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 at Class 1 tests the finished material against the strictest tier there is, the one used for products made for babies. A rubber-plantation certificate certifies the field the trees grew in and says nothing about the finished foam.
This is where latex pillow marketing and substance drift furthest apart. The certificate to ask for names the pillow, not the plantation.

"The cloth has a balanced weave base using green cotton in both warp and weft. At five points across the weft the green is replaced by bands with two strips with stripes in pink, black or yellow cotton. Between these are scattered a large assortment of individual motifs woven in supplementary weft of white, pink, yellow and black cotton."
