What's prompting my visit this week: the gorgeous images of clothing and palatial decor in the "A La Luz De La ," which caught my eye at my town the other day.

It looks like the book was published in connection with a temporary exhibition at the Museo a while back: you can see a video here.

I'm thinking initially about just uploading designs to sites like Spoonflower and Redbubble (because it looks easiest and I have very few spoons) but I'm also curious about designers who have their own websites. Do you have to have stock on hand and process orders yourself, or are there print-on-demand companies that handle that side while letting you have your own website

Curious about making my own fabric and other textile and home decor designs to sell (eg via Spoonflower) and wondering if anyone has any experience they'd like to share.

These are no ordinary jeans. Aldersey-Williams, 51, a Merseyside-based textiles teacher, grew them herself. The process which nearly broke her took three years and 600 hours of labour, from sowing and growing the flax and woad (for linen and natural indigo dye) to dew retting (or rotting) the flax to reveal the linen fibres to breaking, scutching and hackling it (that is, prepping it for spinning) to spinning almost five kilometres of thread to weaving, cutting and sewing it all together.

Interesting story from the AFR today on flax / woad jeans, an idea conceived and executed by Justine Aldersey-Williams a textile lecturer and Mersyside practitioner.
