Everything to know about Fabric and Textiles

Test fit of fabric lid supports. Was going to use a gas strut support I got but it's too big so went back to a fabric solution. It's a bit rough at the moment, but I'm going to redo it once I've sanded/painted it.

A very quiet years weaving - only two teatowel warps. This might explain why our inventory of teatowels on hand is dangerously low

Here's a new made by my mom, it is titled 'Garden Gate', it measures 44 x 55 in (112 x 140 cm), so it is a good size for a sofa or arm chair, or great to use as a decorative wall hanging for a large blank space on your wall. Msg me if interested!

I recently bought a dress on eBay, but I'm pretty sure that is the only article of I purchased in 2023. I also bought a used pillowcase at my local shop, and a new bedsheet from Amazon. That's it for . The industry despises people like me.

Went to B&Q, got some MDF cut to size and now the footstool has a new lid. Entering Ship of Theseus territory here.

Just need the constant rain showers to stop here so I can sand and paint it.

Here below's a really cool quilt made by my mom. This one measures 54 x 54 in, so it is a good size for a sofa or chair or for a baby. Also, it is great for a large empty spot on the wall that needs a nice centerpiece decoration, it can be displayed as a wall hanging piece too. Msg me if you like this one! Makes a great gift for someone you love too!

'A single strand of fiber developed at Washington State University has the flexibility of cotton and the electric conductivity of a polymer, called polyaniline. The newly developed material showed good potential for wearable e-textiles. The WSU researchers tested the fibers with a system that powered an LED light and another that sensed ammonia gas, detailing their findings in the journal Carbohydrate Polymers.'

New Clues Emerge About the Fluffy Dogs Once Bred for Their Wool

Conductive Cellulose-Based Fibers For Clothing: Coming Soon

This is amazing - Coastal Salish nations bred and raised a woolly dog called a mutton and wove their fur into textiles Extinct woolly dog was carefully bred for weaving, ancient DNA confirms

The story of these distinctive doggos is emerging from ancestral knowledge of the Coast Salish peoples and a new genetic study of the pelt of a pup named Mutton.

Carpets are of great importance in a room. For expression, warmth, beauty, comfort, sound insulation etc. A great tool to create a cozy environment & contributes a lot to the well-being in the home.

Actually did buy the expensive handmade watercolours after all, and in part because I'm intrigued by the heavily waxed cotton batik cloth the seller used as packaging. Intrigued because I've seen those (western hobbyist) recipes before, and I could see the resulting material is a reflection on the fragility of cultural knowledge transfer. This is related to colonialism, sure, but this is more directly a consequence of the industrial age. It's amazing something as integral to human civilization as textiles is now considered the arcane arts because so much of it is taken up by manufacturing.

Anyway, here's the result of some light, janky (ie not with the appropriate tools) calendering (or gerus in Malay). It's one of the final steps to finishing a cloth, and sort of a sister process to fulling (as cellulose fibres like cotton cannot be felted to even up the weave, like wool/protein fibres can). (1/)

Some more shots of the printed linen

Also the linen arrived from Spoonflower.

Was not happy with the existing legs on the stool, so new ones were ordered. Problem is, most of the legs I could find were over 40mm in diameter meaning they would stick out. Fortunately on Aliexpress I found these 38mm aluminum legs. Happy with these, may swap the plastic feet for wooden ones.
