""In the past the weaving process was very arduous. My grandmother told me that they used cotton they didn't buy yarn as we do now they had to prepare everything. I don't know where they got it only that they had a place where they prepared the cotton and then they wove the blouses and the men's clothing. We no longer have to do all that. Now we buy the thread in the stores it is ready to use and we only have to make balls and can weave it quickly. We cannot compare the work of our grandmothers with the work we do today. Life has changed, but I don't know if it has improved or worsened." -Magdalena Lpez Lpez, Weaver, Jolom Mayaetik, Weaving Chiapas: Maya Women's Lives in a Changing World. Learn more about "Empowering Threads: Textiles of Jolom Mayaetik" on display, pre-security, in the International Terminal. http://bit.ly/EmpoweringThreads" This was posted to on February 09, 2018 Sneak peak at a WIP, I call it the "Tunisian Sampler Purse" lol. Just an excuse to practice every 2-color in-the-round Tunisian stitch I can find, basically. More details on Ravelry of course.

taking advantage of waking up BEFORE EIGHT by doing a ton of laundry while working on a project I've been meaning to get to for a couple weeks now

I've been needing new sheets forever Midna loves digging in the sheets with her little claws and now there's a BUNCH of tears and holes in the fabric. I've thought about mending them, but they're knit (T-shirt fabric) instead of woven, so I may just tear the sheets up for yarn or use them for another project, idk

BUT I bought two sets of pale purple (woven) sheets with the intention of dumping them into a to make them dark purple. however, since they arrived, I've been reading a lot about , so I'm attempting some shibori-like dye resists

Midna is very interested in the damp bedding on the suddenly cleared off kitchen island, so bonus kitty photo!

I will be going to London, UK and Paris, France from mid-to-end of August to speak at a conference and do some research for my PhD:

Does anyone have good suggestions for queer archives, design, or textile-related things to check out in and around those cities

Yesterday, I was at Oakwell Hall in Birstall for World Stitch Day & the launch of the WOVEN textile festival.

As well as workshops & demonstrations by local groups, there was a talk by Kirstie Macleod about The Red Dress: a global embroidery project, featuring work from 370 artists in 51 countries.

The dress is at Oakwell throughout June: it is stunning in person

There are 100+ other events happening in Kirklees for WOVEN too:
