Fixed a backpack (which I used for bicycling) again. Apparently, there is a certain point of UV exposure where nylon starts breaking apart. Wonder if there's some way to treat it to halt that breakdown process. (sewed fabric behind one spot with a machine, pulled fabric together hand sewn in some corners, used fraycheck on several other areas)
Get it before it's gone! These are the last of the lighter Logwood fabrics I dyed last year. The new batch doesn't have the same light grey-ish purple feel to it, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to make more. Currently in Aida, Lugana, Belfast Linen.

LOL the menswear guy might be getting echoes of my feed somewhere third hand.
(we just discussed this in approximately this form -- figuring out fabrics... ending in poop)
Batch#2 now drying. Batch#1 needs to be rinsed and hung, but apparently possibility of thunderstorms and sudden downbursts later... so just putting them in a container and will do that tomorrow when there is less chance they blow down the block while drying. (Update: fixed color on photo of batch#1)
obsessed with fabric manipulation! The I use are African prints, neoprene and satin. I recycle my leftover pieces into strips, cord and manipulate them into sculptural wearable art.

Conflicted as I have reached the stage where ideally I want to purge most of the fabrics and bits that have been living with me in my studio for at least 5 years, somethings as much as 20 years But then I am working on a size modification this morning and there was a request to add an embellishment that I just need a .25 m square of white peau de soie to match this existing piece.
And I have it in my bits and offcuts stash.
Tomorrow at the Studio Purge/ Yard Sale I hope to send off many things to new homes- but Ill be taking time later today to sort and keep a selection of pieces for future -just in case- moments
Rachel Halton still doesnt know who made the decision, in October 2022, to summarily decommission the $160,000 that had been a cornerstone of s renowned and courses for 20 years.
Nearly 3 metres high and weighing more than half a tonne, the loom was an intricate machine of polished wood, steel, compressed air and : simultaneously a grand monument to the golden age of the and a modern for weaving strands of into intricate . Halton knew she couldnt let it end up in landfill.
The loom was the only one of its kind in the southern hemisphere, and one of only a handful in the world, bought for the universitys campus in the early 2000s, soon after Halton started teaching there. It elevated what you could do as an artist, she says.
Students enrolled just to have access to it. International artists visited especially to weave on it. It became integral to Haltons creative practice.
Watt has a very special affinity with the loom. It isnt just the time she spent working on it at RMIT, or that it sat in her home for months after it was rescued. Shes also been using her coding skills self-taught to update its electronics. Its as though technology is lapping back on itself, given that inspired the basis of .

My fabric arrived! :AirHorn:
The "sand" coloured cotton fabric is definitely paler than the pictures, but I don't mind.
The wool/viscose blend is beautiful and will make an excellent pair of pants and/or a suit jacket. :JustRight:
If I wanted the exact colour I would have been slightly disappointed in the cotton I suppose, but otherwise wastedfabrics.com was a good experience.

NIST: NIST Database Can Help Increase Recycling of Textiles and Clothing. according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in 2018 around 85% of used clothes and textiles headed to landfills and incinerators, wasting precious resources and polluting our environment. One reason is that recycling can be more expensive than landfilling, so companies have little incentive to recycle.
